Climbing volcanoes San Pedro / San Pablo (near Calama,Chile)

by Andino » Wed Aug 30, 2006 10:08 pm

Has anybody climbed volcanoes San Pedro or San Pablo ?
They are very close to each other, and located North of Calama, by the Bolivian border.

- Easy access from Calama by public transport or taxi ?
- Nice climb ? Nice view on top ?

Thanks in advance for any information :D

Hi!

I attempted San Pedro and and San Pablo in 2003. But serious bad weather made us turn around.
Access is not easy w/o 4x4. There is a bus to Ollague from Calama, which passes by the mountain, but you have to walk quite far from the road. Not sure how long, but quite a ways.

Not sure which approach would be faster.
The views are nice - this is taken from the Base Camp: http://www.summitpost.org/image/197311/ ... 946-m.html

Cheers,
Peter
