temperatures on pico de orizaba

by paisajeroamericano » Tue Jul 29, 2008 4:24 pm

how cold does it typically get on pico de orizaba? i am considering driving down there from california in december/january and i'd rather not bring expensive gear like down jackets and sleeping bags that i will have to worry about safeguarding for two months... i figure i can always pick up a few wool sweaters in oaxaca (i'm taking a roundabout route to avoid mexico city) - i guess i'm good to about -5 C with my cheap gear, but would want to bring the serious stuff for anything much colder than that...

also, any other suggestions for mountains to climb on the way? i'm considering picacho del diablo, nevado de colima, nevado de toluca, and iztaccihuatl, although i doubt i'll hit all of those - any info about anything in oaxaca? i may go check out tajamulco or some of the other peaks in guatemala too, i guess we'll see - also, anybody else gonna be in the area around that time and looking for adventure? it'll be my first time driving down there - i've travelled fairly extensively in latinamerica, but haven't been to mexico since 2001

thanks dude - i guess that's sort of what i expected - i could probably get away without serious cold weather gear, but it would be foolish and irresponsible to not come prepared for serious cold weather conditions - i suppose i'll bring what i wore on cotopaxi a couple years ago - thanks again
