Mauna Kea tours

by jeffh25 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 9:15 pm

So I'm attempting to go to Hawaii for my Honeymoon in a couple months. Being a Highpointer, one of the main attractions for me is Mauna Kea. The only way I think I can get the new Mrs. to do it is to take one of the guided tours. I've seen 2-3 on the internet that look good, but I just wondered if anyone had had any personal experience with them. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I did it on my honeymoon. Only I left the missus sleeping at the hotel. She was happy sleeping in and I got back in time to have brunch with her. I drove to the ranger station at 9k at 3 a.m. and arrived on the summit early enough to see the open bay doors on the Keck Observatory, then bombed back down the trail. :D fun trip.
