The Ptarmigan Tunnel to Ahern Pass Goat Trail condition

by Mooner » Mon Jul 05, 2010 12:41 am

I'm planning a trip up to GNP on July 9th-13th. I was wonder if The Ptarmigan Tunnel to Ahern Pass Goat Trail is open and do able without crampons and what not. Does anyone know the condition of this trail? If anyone has done it recently could you tell me about it?

Rebelgrizz's advice is right on. Also, we did the trail in late July after a relatively dry winter, and still needed crampons for the final climb to Ahern Pass—there is a large snowfield which it is not possible to bypass.

Thanks thats is what I wanted to know. I didn't think that the NP would have info on a goat trail though.
