Nikwax - flunks

by billisfree » Sat Jul 03, 2010 9:53 pm

I asked before - What's good for waterproofing your boots?

Several people highly recommended Nikwax. I gave
it a try for over a year and STILL not completely
satisfied with it.

I started with some newly Nikwaxed boots,
hiked and climbed for 15 hours over a snowfield and glacier.

By end of day, my boots were completely wet...
even tho my feet felt pretty dry inside.

Is there anything better... or should I consider getting
plastic boots?

Did you use wax or water based. In conditions like that you need wax based. It matters.

What was the air temperature? 15 hours on snow, especially late spring snow, will wet through just about any leather/wax.

I don't understand... did your feet get wet or not?

Nikwax makes approximately 35 different waterproofing products. Can you be more specific about which one you're using and which boots you have?
