La Sportiva nepal EVO GTX Boots??

by DudeThatMustHurt » Fri Feb 11, 2011 4:01 pm

Good enough for Rainier?

I have been -30 with them quite a few times and i'm kosher, I just am a bit awry about the amount of moisture, I have re waterproofed them and have not once had any problems. I just don't want to dump more cash into doubles YET if I don't have to... I really need to get this thing in the bag and get the experience for upcoming ideas

More than enough. No need for doubles. If anything, go lighter.

Not worried about weight, they are major comfortable on my feet, in some cases I prefer them over many of my other hiking\backpacking boots. I just wondered about how moist it is on that half of the US.
I prefer to carry a bit additional weight for most climbs to help myself for future endeavors where I won't have a choice but to bring more weight..
Thank you for your input

The issue is as much internal dampness from sweat as external dampness from snow or rain, and waterproofing won't help that. That said, if you don't mind bringing damp boots into your tent at night to keep them from freezing you should be fine. I wore my Nepal Evos for three days on Rainier (Liberty Ridge) in late spring and had no problems with cold feet. In summer, on a less time consuming route, you could probably get away with something less burly.

Unless you are planning on a multiday trip in the dead of winter then the LS Nepal Top Evos should be fine on Rainier.
