Sierra: Lakes Basin/ Cartridge Pass conditions Aug2012?

Would like to hear if you've been over Cartridge in the past few weeks or in the Basin. Heading up next week and wondering about taking/leaving the ice ax...

From Vennacher Needle. From Observation one can see Dumbbell Lakes, but not into Lake Basin.
