Fall colors

by Scott » Wed Sep 12, 2012 2:38 pm

Fall is in the air. I took this photo in the Flat Top mountains last Saturday (our good camera died, this is a cheap backup). The colors are really peaking now, at least there. Saturday morning we woke up to ice and the water that was left in someone's cup outside was frozen solid. Last night it snowed in the mountains as well.

Geez, what a BIG difference between Arizona and Colorado.

In Arizona, in (most) years the leaves don't start turning until the second week in October!

The other day, I saw some Canadian geese flying north .... they must have lost their way and were exchanging their GPS for an upgrade.

I was up as far as Cameron Pass, at the head of the Poudre Canyon, yesterday and found the leaves to be approaching mucho color in the upper reaches. Not quite as far along as Scott's photo shows but getting close. I'm thinking this coming weekend or the next as best time to view, all of course dependent on the weather.

This coming weekend (9/22) should be about the best weekend around the state, things are really peaking in the Vail Valley , not so much in town proper, but the aspen covered ski slopes above it are looking really good. A little bit of haze from some Cali/PacNW fires, but otherwise its going to be a good one for leaf peepers! Come on out and visit us 8)

Upper Cache La Poudre Canyon just below the Laramie River Road from today, 9/20/12. Colors along the Brainard Lake Rd were just as brilliant yesterday.
