I am updating a page and would like to use an image from another site, but by linking directly to it.
can I do this? do I need special permission from the other site?
not sure how all this works.

CC BY-SA
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to “copyleft” free and open source software licenses. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use. - am I understanding this: if the picture I want to use has the above license, I can in fact upload and place it on the page as long as I credit the owner ?

brichardsson wrote:also, as long as they are letting you use the image, you should save it and upload it to a file sharing site yourself, and then link to that (still giving them credit, of course). that way, if they take it down or reorganize their site at some point, you won't wind up with a broken link on your page.

Well yeah... but that file sharing site could be just uploading it to SP directly.
