Hank Williams Jr. & 1975 Ajax Peak accident

by Jesus Malverde » Tue Nov 26, 2013 10:33 pm

Howdy folks,
Apparently Hank Williams Jr took a serious fall off of Ajax Peak, Montana on Aug 8, 1975.
I'm curious, does anybody know which route good 'ol Hank was on and were exactly on the route he fell?

I've done internet research over the years on this one, with no real luck.
I'm a Hank fan and plan on doing this peak in the future so it would be nice to close the loop.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Best,
JM

This link should provide most of the answers your looking for:

http://countrymusichalloffame.org/the-fall

It includes news clippings from the time period of the fall, first person accounts from those who helped him and a photo of the face on Ajax he fell from.

Based on the accounts it appears he was not going for the summit but in search of goats with a local rancher when he fell 500 feet down the snow field. Based on the injuries he sustained, he is one lucky survivor.
