Thanks! Yeah, I've never bothered with more than a P&S and switched to smartphone about 4-5 years ago due to convenience, multi-function, light weight, comfortable pocket size, and ease of quickly doing things with images (rather than letting them just sit for weeks, months, or years unappreciated). I found that as long as I am willing to live without optical zoom, these factors outweigh the investment of time and money required for P&S and DSLR. My current model is the HTC DNA and I had a Thunderbolt before that.

Google Photos makes panoramas without me having to do anything, and simple photoshop type work is a snap (and rarely necessary). Since I am not in the photography business, I am not willing to spend any more time and money on that part of my mountain hobby than I already do.

Anyone have any good experiences with a particular newer smartphone or any apps besides Google Photos? Most medium to high price smartphone cameras seem to perform decently now. My wife just got one that even does well for indoor photography. I actually cracked the screen on this phone due to poor pocket choice while doing that goofy downclimbing move at the end of my trip report. Luckily I was looking at getting a new one soon anyway.

My partner's been using an iPhone 5s with great results, for example:

The 6 is even better...

Thanks. I've heard good things about recent iPhone cameras. Nice depth and clarity! I'm not sure if I'm ready to make that shift, but those look great.
