Problems uploading photos

by Nanuls » Wed Mar 10, 2010 8:37 pm

Hello Elves

I don't seem to be able to upload any photos. When I try I just get the following message and an empty photo page:

insert_column_data() failed: DB Error: no database selected

see here:

Anyone else have this problem?

Cheers
Dan

Nope, tried that and I'm still getting the same thing. Any other ideas?

I'm having the same problem with the same message. I'm in the middle of submitting a page and if I continue to have the problem, I'll have to delete it and try another day. :(

I just sent a note to Matt. Hopefully he can address it quickly.

I am having the exact same problem!
I tried to upload this morning and again a few minutes ago, but still the same error (like Nanuls mentioned.)
The photos are regular .jpg 's and uploaded fine until yesterday so there must be something wrong?

This may or may not be the same problem:

last night I uploaded a photo (via Add Image - Create New link from left margin of someone else's album). After completely filling in the Add Image Form and clicking submit, there was a long delay. DNS found Summitpost, and the browser (very old version of Firefox) status bar said something to the effect of "uploading data to www.summitpost.org" for a while, which is normal since I was uploading an 8MP photo over a not-always-great wireless network to a not-blazing-fast cable modem. I stopped paying attention, but a few minutes later a window had appeared that had the Summitpost header up to the blue bar, but was otherwise blank except for the text of an error message (something like "database error: object not found", but I don't remember clearly). [Edit: After reading the top of this thread I think it may in fact have been "no database selected". Keep that in mind if you're ever on a jury.] I hit the Back button, clicked Submit again, and it worked fine (after a similar delay). Later I discovered I'd created two Image pages, but on one of them the image was not visible (medium size thumbnail did not exist -- I didn't try clicking through to see if the original full-size image existed). I deleted that page.

Montana Matt wrote:Ok, I just uploaded another photo without incident. Can you guys give me more information about how the problem arises?

Are you attaching a photo to another object or just uploading a standalone photo?

What browser are you using?

At what point do you receive the error (immediately after hitting the "Submit Object" button or as it tries to transition to the next page)?

Thanks for your help Matt.

I've been trying to upload the photos to an album and the error occurs as it tries to transition to the next page. I've been using IE8.

Just tried it with Firefox 3.6, which didn't work either.

I'm still having the same trouble today. I created a mountain page and selected Add Image from the left menu followed by Create New. Both last night and today, the first photo loads OK, but I can't get a second one no matter how many times I try. The error message is the same one listed at the start of this thread. One slightly different thing though is that today I'm referred back to the Create a Page screen and I don't think I was last night. I'm on IE.

This morning and afternoon I find nothing has changed. Still can't submit my latest mountain page. However; I did start a new album and submitted several photos successfully. Figured things were fixed and attempted the mountain page again, but no dice. :(

Actually, to clarify, I can submit the mountain page, I just can't attach photos to it.

Same problem here on loading pics for an M&R. Reduce the pic size, re-submit, sit there a few seconds and AAWWHH!!, not again! It's a disappointing crap shoot every other time! I don't get the red x of death, I get: insert_column_ data failed: DB Error: no database selected

Yeah - I had this problem last night when I was working on a page. It was weird because it would only happen about 1 out of 10 times, but the rest of the time it worked great...

I assume you are saying "I have verified this is an SP side issue and will have our people look into it".

Sort of. I didn't verify the problem and Matt was unable to initially recreate it himself. He's been busy the last few days on more pressing problems (aka, a real job) but believes he has enough info from the last few posts to work on it.
