Yikes! Another painfully slow day on SP. Has anyone notified Matt? The SP servers look like they're on their death bed. I'm getting a ton of unable to connect to server messages.

General Error

Could not obtain user/online information

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 2006 MySQL server has gone away

SELECT u.username, u.user_id, u.user_allow_viewonline, u.user_level, s.session_logged_in, s.session_ip FROM phpbb_users u, phpbb_sessions s WHERE u.user_id = s.session_user_id AND s.session_time >= 1282670996 ORDER BY u.username ASC, s.session_ip ASC

File : page_header.php

Time to reboot??

It's been like this, off and on, all summer. I do think a staff member should notify Matt if one hasn't already.

I haven't seen it this bad all summer. Something definitely happened yesterday. I'm not sure what "MySQL server has gone away" means, but it can't be good! SP is pretty much unusable. It took 10 mins to get this post a reply screen to open.

It's the admin's way to keep everybody to rethink their post...

Glad to hear it's not just my computer. Yes, painfully slow today. At least the 2nd time in the past month that I've seen this.

Has anyone seen MySQL Server? It seems to be missing...

On a positive note, the banner ads seem to be working just fine...

Response times slow again.

All other sites I visit responding normally.

Anyone else having problems?

Same here. My Glacier National Park page sits for about seven minutes (I've timed it!) while the "loading" wheel turns, at which point the page does not come up, and I get the following message:

get_image_file() failed: DB Error: no database selected

All other pages load extremely slowly, but eventually do load.

This is a new development, at least for me—this has never happened before.

Help!

And Thank You.

Ditto - same message, same behaviour.

Some of my earlier, lower content pages load OK. But try anything with a good number of images, tables etc and it's "get_image_file() failed: DB Error: no database selected" time.

I also notice a far lower hit rate than normal on even my more popular pages. An indication that others are having the same problem (or are bored to death with my stuff  )

Absolutely fucking grand.

Mountain pages aren't loading anymore, and there's no PnP to keep me occupied in the meanwhile. Might as well fuck off to sleep.

For me, this problem began Thursday night. Everything but content pages loads normally, but those others are slow, especially my own.

Although we've been told it isn't so, I still wonder if SP is becoming overwhelmed by photos. It has become a dumping ground for people's personal pictures; folks like to put up albums with dozens of pictures for every damn hike in the woods they go on.

We'll let Gangolf and Matt know; they are best at dealing with these issues. Gangolf is away for a week, though, and Matt is sometimes hard to reach.
