Rob, I'm happy to hear that your arms and legs are (more or less) fine. I was worried because six years ago my mom was in a really bad auto accident and her legs will never be the same.

Try not to give the radiology techs too much crap.

Rob,
Sorry - i had just come back from the trip to NorCal/Oregon and heard about the accident :-( Speedy recovery and come back to rock, snow, ice and anything that you love. Looks like a bad year though ... Please, be careful, folks :-)

Misha etal, Rob and the powers that be are still unsure of when he will be moved. When I arrived, there was a person giving him info about the rehab hospital. Everyday he is getting better. I printed off the last several pages of this thread for him to read later this evening.

Steve Larson wrote:. . . On the way to Yosemite last Thursday night Rob swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of his car. He told me that he broke three cervical vertebrae in the accident. A surgery to repair the damage last Friday seems to have been successful, though it will take some time to know for sure. Other than that (as if that wasn't enough!) he does not appear to have suffered any other serious injuries.

He was very fortunate in that the person driving behind him was an EMT, who rushed to his assistance. She stabilized his neck until emergency personnel were on the scene. . .

From a couple of pages back. Also, the airbag in his car did not deploy.

Looks like you had an angel right by your side! or at least an EMT. Get well soon, thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.

Rob is in good spirits considering.

He had a good chuckle when my daughter delivered a stuffed llama (The Dolly Llama) to him. He appreciates all the good wishes and psychic energy people are sending his way.

RRR - I had the close encounter with the deer this past weekend at Crater Lake, OR after the sunset. The stupid animal was not sure where to jump - lucky for me it jumped away from the road.

I hope you are as well nurtured as the Swedish llama in this picture!

Gene, sounds like you got up to see Rob. Cool. I met your daughter on my way out of the hospital yesterday.

I understand that in addition to the llama he now has on this table, at least another is on the way.

I'll be seeing him this evening and will ask his permission to post info on the plans that have been made for him.

I can tell you that for a guy with a busted neck, he has a hell of a strong handshake and a positive attitude.

I will also add that my home/office is about 5 minutes from the hospital. If anyone has any messages for him, PM me and I'll get them to Rob. He appreciates all the support you are giving him.

I just saw Rob and he has been moved out of ICU. He also stood today and shuffled from side to side. :D He is to have another surgery tomorrow to add some hardware to his neck. He said that he will be moved to Santa Clara early next week, but wasn't specific on a day. I will be gone until Sunday so Gene can provide updates

Thanks for the updates Dan and Gene, as of course it's impossible to get any info over the phone. I'm so glad his condition is improving. Where did they move him to?
