WTB: REALLY Cheap Approach Skis. I mean, REALLY cheap.

by zeroforhire » Fri Dec 17, 2010 7:24 pm

I have a line on some old silvretta 404's, so now am looking to get a pair of cheap skis to go with them. These will be used for ice climbing approaches... Obviously, lighter is better... but beggars can't be choosers.

Oh, if you have anything in the 178-181 range... 95mm waist or narrower.. that would be great. (to fit my skins).

Here is the kicker... looking to spend no more than $50 shipped, $25 local. (Seattle).

I figured it is worth a shot.

Here in Southern California, before the season starts, and after it ends, one can buy all kinds of cheap downhill skis at ski rental shops . Most rentals skis are of very forgiving design, are light and if the bindings on them are the only ones (only one set of holes drilled) you can remove them and install (or have it done) your AT bindings. The use is almost identical for intermediate alpine ski and AT set up to be used mostly for approaches to climbs. Check your local rental stores, it is worth a few phone calls.
