Great view from on top.
Visited this summit near the start of a 26+ mile day NoBo on the ST.
...but awfully crowded on a summer Saturday. Still, can't complain about a 360 degree view from the crest of the Blue Ridge. Tagged this hill on the way to Grassy Ridge Bald.
Beautiful hike in perfect weather!
Hiked from Carvers Gap, wanted to go farther north on the AT but didn't have time, excellent views from the top though.
Climbed Round Knob on the way to Grassy Ridge Bald.
Crossed on section hike of the Roan Highlands portion of the AT. Experienced the most beautiful sunset I can ever rember and slept out under the stars on top of the bald. I'll never forget how each row of mountains in the distance turned a different shade of blue contrasted against the pinks, reds and orange of the sky as the sun slowly went down. To this day remains one of the most magical experiences I've had in the backcountry.
when we did the 6,000 footers in the Roans
I decided to make a stop in the Roan Highlands on my way to the Smoky Mountains. It was a relatively hot day, and views were limited by haze, but it was still gorgeous up there. I decided to take a little walk, and the next thing I knew, I was at top of Round Bald and on my way to Jane Bald.
Made the quick hike up from Carver's Gap. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day and it started raining just before we hit the summit - couldn't see a thing! We had plans on hiking for quite a few miles in the Highlands but the weather didn't cooperate. Oh well - it gives me a reason to go back to what I know is a beautiful area.
Summited at sunset on the 3rd. Passed over on the way to Big Yellow Mountain on the 4th of July. Returned to watch fireworks from the top later that night.
Climbed with Eleutheros
Passed right over top. Nice views
Hiked twice in the same day. Morning had the mountain covered in clouds and fog. Afternoon gave way to partly cloudy skies and gorgeous view of the valley's below and mountain ranges far off. One of the best view in the south, period!
as part of our main expedition, Outward Bound in 1980 when the rhodo were in full bloom - beautiful!
Part of Appalachian Trail thru-hike.
Chilly/windy autumn day...beautiful view! Day-hiked as part of an 11 mile 'loop' on the AT.
On the way to Grassy Ridge Bald. A few people on the summit, but I think most dayhikers stop here. Solitude awaits further north.
Beautiful day for hiking. Clear skies with great views. The temperatures were fair and there was little ice on the trail.
I walked up from Carvers Gap with my wife and her father. Nice views. My first bald. Nice little hike that would be good for small kids or other who are not hikers.
While hiking to Grassy Ridge Bald, we stopped at the "summit" to take a few pictures. It was a very windy and cold day. Nice hike.
