Hiked with my wife Denise Ash and her Brother David Patterson. Beautiful hike. Clear skies after the snow moved out.

A beautiful bald
...but awfully crowded on a summer Saturday. Still, can't complain about a 360 degree view from the crest of the Blue Ridge. Tagged this hill on the way to Grassy Ridge Bald.

Memorable Sunset
Crossed on section hike of the Roan Highlands portion of the AT. Experienced the most beautiful sunset I can ever rember and slept out under the stars on top of the bald. I'll never forget how each row of mountains in the distance turned a different shade of blue contrasted against the pinks, reds and orange of the sky as the sun slowly went down. To this day remains one of the most magical experiences I've had in the backcountry.

I decided to make a stop in the Roan Highlands on my way to the Smoky Mountains. It was a relatively hot day, and views were limited by haze, but it was still gorgeous up there. I decided to take a little walk, and the next thing I knew, I was at top of Round Bald and on my way to Jane Bald.

Rained Out!
Made the quick hike up from Carver's Gap. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day and it started raining just before we hit the summit - couldn't see a thing! We had plans on hiking for quite a few miles in the Highlands but the weather didn't cooperate. Oh well - it gives me a reason to go back to what I know is a beautiful area.

Foggy in the morning, clear at night
Hiked twice in the same day. Morning had the mountain covered in clouds and fog. Afternoon gave way to partly cloudy skies and gorgeous view of the valley's below and mountain ranges far off. One of the best view in the south, period!

I walked up from Carvers Gap with my wife and her father. Nice views. My first bald. Nice little hike that would be good for small kids or other who are not hikers.
