(Rusting Halls) of the mountain king

Rusting walls (and halls) of the mountain king? It appears that way from the Brins Mesa Trail, looking east toward the west buttress of Arizona's Wilson Mountain. The formation known as "Earth Angel" is the 1,000-foot-high spire to the left. The spire features the Sedona area's longest route, a 6-to-8 pitch line up cracks and chimneys on the spire's west face. The spectacularly airy route, put up by Scott Baxter and Ross Hardwick in 1975, is considered by many as one of the best (5.10) climbs in Sedona. Combined with the complex geology and vivid colours of the area, your eyes are definitely in for a treat when visiting the "rusting walls and halls" of the mountain king. November 19, 2009
