Trailhead on the Kofa Queen Canyon road
W/ Yadahzoemtn. Up in 2 hours. Most of the trail was well cairned. We weren't fortunate enough to spot any bighorn sheep but saw lots of small lizards. We decided that the best way to find the trailhead (and there were 2 about 75' apart) would be to spot skull rock at about 7 miles (on your left inbound) and then begin looking for small cairns to your right which are at the bottom of the easily spotted canyon on your right. As of this date the first trailhead had cairns on both sides which gave it the appearance of a gateway. The 2nd trailhead had one small but artistic cairn and two rust-colored metal posts. We drove the Kofa Queen road in a Nissan Frontier with rear wheel drive but would suggest that 4WD is a better choice. At times we stopped to move a few rocks and in two places we needed to very carefully maneuver to avoid big imbedded rocks. Thanks to Jerry L for some hints on finding the trailhead and discerning the condition of the Kofa Queen road.

Second Summit
This time I took both of my dogs. My older Lab at 11 years old slowed us down a bit so one hour forty five minutes to summit and one hour ten minutes down. We encountered five mountain sheep on the summit which was spectacular !

So Beautiful !
Climbed this with my dog on an extremely windy day. One hour twenty minutes to summit. One hour ten minutes return. Very steep and the views are out of this world. Saw 9 desert mountain sheep in the Kofa Canyon on the day before the climb.

loving the desert peaks
climbed from Ewe Canyon with Allison and Zoey the mountain dog. cloudy day with a slight breeze. road to the "trailhead" was doable with a high clearance 2wd. my 6.8 clearance Honda made it to the entrance of the main canyon. excellent campsite here sitting on a perch overlooking the valley. trail starts at the two metal poles and well cairned all the way to the top. relatively easy to follow if you pay attention.

From Indian Canyon
Gave myself a fantastic birthday present by summiting this landmark mountain. Took the standard route from Indian Canyon, which was fairly well marked and easy to follow. The most challenging part of hiking Signal is getting there. The 4WD access road is one of the worst I've driven and took forever to clear both in and out. Other than that, this is a desert classic worth every effort. Ran into a herd of bighorn sheep too.

Mostly in the dark...
... but still warm. Not wanting to take my rental Ford Escape (with "intelligent" 4WD... whatever that means) into Kofa Queen Canyon, I stopped a short distance from a brief steep rutted spot in the road and then walked from there. The ground was noticably looser/sandier once in the canyon. The route was straightforward, but it seemed to take forever to get to the turnoff spot from the old roadbed. The highlight of the trip was seeing a tarantula crossing my path during the descent.

Rusty Bailey Route
Climbed with Mark and Pat in perfect weather. Really fun route. On the descent, our 60m rope reached from the anchor at the top of the second pitch to a few feet short of the bottom of the first pitch where it was easy to unclip and downclimb that last few feet.
