A rocky ravine with occasional small black-ice patches and waterfalls ... and the typically dismal early-winter Arctic visibility. We are skiing, gingerly, towards the base camp for ascending Khanmey Peak, at 1356m the highest in the East-Central section of Arctic Ural. November 1980.
