The day's last rays of sun...

The day's last rays of sun are hitting Mianzimu(6054m), one of the unclimbed peaks in the Meili Xue Shan Massif.

Re: Did you...

No, the only filter I use for mountain photos is a polarizing filter.

That is an amazing peak

and a real nice photo. What a great first ascent that could be!

Re: That is an amazing peak

I've been to this area twice now and never got a view like this :-(

The 2nd time (April 2002) we went to the village in the forests beneath it, just out of picture to the bottom right and though we could see an approach couloir to the right-hand (north) ridge, we saw nothing more of the mountain.

Re: That is an amazing peak

When I've been to the area in spring and early summer I have seen nothing of the peak either. Winter time, the skies are clear and there wasn't a cloud on the sky for days. I was there in late December.

Re: Great light!!

Thanks TA.
It was this yellow for only a minute or two.
I was sitting on a rock drinking "yak-butter-tea" and looked up for a second, saw the light and just had the time to change lens and take the shot.

Re: Nice light

Thanks!

In the day, the light in this area is usually very sharp, but morning and evening time it changes dramatically. Usually you have good opportunities for nice photos then.

Amazing mountain!

I trekked at the base of Mianzimu in august 2005 and never got a chance of seeing the summit. Thanks for sharing this great picture.

Re: Amazing mountain!

Most of the year it's very cloudy in the area and it's plagued by bad weather. I've been there three times and two I never saw the peaks at all. When there in December the sky was clear all the time and I got very nice views of the whole range.
Thanks for the comment.
