Yeah!Ah-scree skiing with trekking poles. I love it! I like this profile photo Gangolf! Good picture, Vid!
My knees have been announcing their displeasure this year as well, hence the adapting to trekking poles (as urged by our fellow SPer Kane), an exercise regimen to keep them toned and strong, orthodics to hopefully help in the matter and lots of Motrin (better living through modern chemistry). But I've been told by my doctors I should be able to continue hiking and climbing throughout my life (it's good for me) and not to give it up (although the longer days are fewer now).
So I know where Gangolf is at and understand his situation. Keep on trekkin'!

Re: Yeah!Hi, Aaron!
OK jumping may be, but sliding down by scree is not so harmful to knees. It's much better than to do each step separately, where knees take a lot of pressure. regarding poles, you're absolutely right! I read somewhere that on a typical one-day tour poles (hands, of course) take from knees some 40 tons, accumulated. However, I use them allways, but not because having any problems with knees. I feel with them like a 4-leg animal. I never put them on backpack, even if some easy climbing or scrambling is required. Especially when going down I use them like a spider uses legs. Only you need to get used to movements, not to get poles between your legs and fall on a steep slope.
Cheers!
Vid
