This is Goblin Mountain (5,606 ft). Goblin is 1.5 miles east of Kyes Peak. Kyes Peak was once known as Goblin Peak but was renamed in 1946 for Monte Cristo resident James Ellsworth Kyes. Kyes was a naval officer who heroically gave his life upon giving his life vest to a cabin boy when their destroyer
Leary was sinking in the North Atlantic during WWII. This side of Goblin drains into Goblin Creek, the other side drains to Quartz Creek. Photo taken September 22, 2001 from the NW (from the Northeast Ridge of Kyes). For a view of the summit block of Goblin, click
