Only a forty minute scamper across the ridge from Lower Wolf Jaw. Took a short break here then off to Armstrong.
Part of our epic Great Range Traverse. Brutally good times!!
Brutal hike. But well worth the effort.
I had a bit of solitude on the summit which was nice....Giant really looks giant from this summit. My detailed account of this trip is posted on the Gothics log.
Came from Gothics and Armstrong with my brother. A beautiful day of hiking. Drank some scotch for awhile at the top before dropping down to swim at John's Brook and camp at the Howard Lean-to
Gothics - Wolf Jaws
Part of Gothic Climb.
Climbed on the way to Armstrong. Glass of milk, typical for the ADK in late October.
Upper and Lower made me happy this day. Solo
Part of great range traverse
Summited the 29th highest peak on a nice, soggy Spring day. We started at St. Huberts around 8am. The trek up was scenic and warm about halfway up but it soon turned into winter. We postholed a lot and got fed up, so we used our snowshoes until we got the the Upper Wolfjaw/Lower Wolfjaw split. We then used crampons the rest of the way up to the summit. The trip was fun, yet had some challenging sections with ice and rock. The mixed climbing slowed us down but nonetheless we made it to the summit by 12:15pm. We then continued down and summited Lower Wolfjaw before calling it a day.
Long, but amazing day.
Great hike up. A bit icy in spots. Has to switch from snowshoes to crampons. No view but still a nice day.
Did a loop: Went up Lake Rd, then up to Gothics via Pyramid, across to Armstrong, then UWJ, and finally down Wedge Brook trail. 10 hour loop from parking lot with lots or scrambling along the way. Nice views across the valley to Dix, Dial, Nippletop.
My dog and me LWJ-Saddleback
Camped two nights below the Wolfjaws and did a loop on the middle day across Upper Wolfjaw, Armstrong, and Gothics.
Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. First summit of a 2 days-hike. Slept at the garden the night before. We proceeded to JBL to drop our pack. We then climbed Upper Wolf Jaw, Armstrong and Gothics. We were back to the tentsite at 7PM.
2nd peak on a Great Range traverse. Had the summit all to myself!
Third summit of the day after Armstrong and Gothics, decent view, really crowded on top, maybe 10 people sitting and laying, not friendly at all and offering no space for the two of us. Pretty poor wilderness manners...sad.
January 2008 - Fun cold ridge traverse.
