Nice photo...This looks like a nice example of a "hanging valley" - perhaps formed long ago by glaciers.

Re: Nice photo...Yes thats true. When coming up the road from below you don't expect to find such a wide high valley up there.
It's very popular for cross country skiing in the winter.
