Wildcat Ridge  Sucess!

Summitted D and E, and had plans to go on to A, but the day was hot and I was already pretty low on water. Oh well, next time...
Update: brought more water this time. Great views, and got some alone time on the summit.

Carter-Moriah Traverse  Sucess!

Did as part of a Carter-Moriah Traverse. Was cloudy all day so I got almost no views.

two tired backpackers  Sucess!

We started from Imp camp site in the morning, and reached carter notch by 4 pm. I totally under estimated the Wildcats though. I figured from my map that we would climb 1000' from the notch and than have an easy stride back to my car, but i was wrong! We were tired, we were sore, i had a cramp in a calf, and we hiked on through the dark. the hike down to rt 16 was interesting while tired, sore, and carrying overnight packs minus our food, but we made it! The Wildcats now have my respect!

First of four mountains  Sucess!

Climbed Wildcat A, Carter Dome, South Carter, and Middle Carter after an all night inventory the day before. Probably not a wise move but I still managed to tag the A summit and then romp up Carter Dome to bag that one and the two beyond it, along with Mt Hight in between. I slept really well that night. On 25 May 2015 I bagged E and D from the falls trailhead and it took me an hour and forty five minutes to D summit. The first hour of the climb was a serious masochism fest. Only one other climber on the trail and he was doing the entire five pack in one push. As fast as I was, he was faster : )

To the Hut  Sucess!

Hiked up 18 Mile Brook Trail and went straight to Wildcat A, then up and over to B, same to C and then finally to D. No views, were in a cloud all day with some drizzle. Then we hiked back up and over all the Wildcats to stay the night at the Carter Notch Hut. Great accommodations. On to the Carters the next day.

Was Planning on Hiking both A & D  Sucess!

I decided on hiking Wildcat before I purchased the White Mountain Guide. I had hiked Washington with my niece a few weeks before and couldn't find anyone to go with me so I brought my dog as company. I picked Wildcat because I knew how to get there and where to camp from my August trip. I loved the hike but it was a bit hard on my almost eight year old golden who is up for everything. There were a few hairy points where I was pushing or pulling her. We made it to the D summit and I ended up walking her down the ski slope. We did have a beautiful 70 degree day and the views were incredible. I plan on going back without her to summit A.

steep and fun  Sucess!

I had to start from the Lost Pond trailhead since the Ellis River was flooded. It was steep, and I had to give my dog an extra boost in a couple spots. The trail was icy in spots, but the views were great.

Amazing Views!  Sucess!

Celebrated 10/10/10 with a Wildcat Ridge hike with Troop 1620 from Plymouth, MA! Started at Carter Notch hut and hiked to Pinkham (via lost pond). Killer on the knees going down but a great day all around!

The mountain gods did not smile  Sucess!

The day started Ok, but the reports forecasted rain in the afternoon. We were prepared, but the rain, freezing rain, and fog continued to get worse as the day wore on. It didn't get so foggy that we were in complete white out conditions, but we did not get any views from the summit. Will have to go back someday.

good times  Sucess!

I took the Lost Pond trail to the Wildcat Ridge Trail. It basically rained the whole month, so the trail was muddy and wet the entire time. The views of Mt. Washington are GREAT. The towers on Wildcat D were closed. I only saw one person on the trail and they were doing a survey. I was glad to get out and go hiking after so much crappy weather. You have to wait for a good day for this mountain, because you want to see the views. The view of Carter notch is awesome too. I read the guide where it said the true summit was off the view trail. I found it. I took the 19 mile brook trail down, and then walked back to pinkham notch on rt 16. The walk back is all uphill.

Wildcat Mountain  Sucess!

Climbed via the Wildcat Ridge Trail from Pinkham Notch. Hiked above a sea of clouds in the notch at around 3000' which gave us tremendous views from the ski area on D Peak. By the time we reached A Peak most of it had burnt off and the foliage was spectacular. Great views into Carter Notch from A Peak as well.

Effort for A  Sucess!

"Bonus" peak from Carter Notch toward the end of a long day of hiking in deep snow. Not as steep as we'd feared - we kept expecting bare rock to climb so didn't put the snowshoes on until we were already very tired.

Whoa  Sucess!

Arrived at Pinkham notch around 1:00 pm. By around 2 we began our little 2 mile jaunt to Wildcat D. It began to snow heavily and did not stop the entire trip. SIX hours later we returned to the car on RT. 16. THE longest four miles of hiking ever for me. Very sustained & steep, a sh*tload of fun! Bring crampons in the winter or you may just get turned around!

Went back for A with Nartreb as he said not as steep as expected but sustained for sure! Funny mono-rail snow conditions added to the challenge!
