Wisdom and Reflection

Wisdom and Reflection

This beautiful mountain is Yungmaijung (multiple spellings, AKA Jampelyang or Manjusri), a physical manifestation of the bodhisatva of 'Wisdom' in Tibetan Buddhism. After researching the writings of Joseph Rock, I believe this mountain was the inspiration for Karakul Peak and the valley of Shangri La in the famous book 'Lost Horizon'. It is 5958 meters tall and is hidden in a remote part of Sichuan province in area mostly unknown to westerners. It was unclimbed as of 2008. More photos at www.MichaelAndersonGallery.com -Mike
