Yellowstone Lake

Smoke plume over Yellowstone Lake in August 2003. I've never been able to decide whether I like my horizontal or vertical shot better, so I posted both. Each reveals different colors and details and has a different character.

Bitchin!

Water and fire. What an incredible pic. Reminds me of those seaside volcanos in Hawaii.

Edit: spelling of title.

Damn, just yesterday someone else corrected some of my other spelling. I can't even swear correctly! Thanks.

you should post this...

to the fire page. Nice framing.

Re: you should post this...

Thank you. If you mean the Fire on the Mountain album, it's there already. I will take a look for Fire in case you meant something else, though.

I like this one slightly better.

Both are 10's.

Re: I like this one slightly better.

Thanks. I'm a little partial to this one, too. Too bad I didn't have some super lens that could have captured all of this plus the full plume.

This is unreal!

What an awesome picture. I love the blend of the smoke with the water below. It almost looks like a bomb went off. Simply stunning.

Re: This is unreal!

Thank you; it was a stunning sight, like something from a fantasy or sci-fi movie, almost. Thanks for looking, and welcome to SummitPost!

Re: Amazing!!

Thanks, Christian. Actually, though, this isn't a volcano although the smoke looks like it; it's from a forest fire.

Intense shot!

Good capture of an intense moment. I have also been in the park during big fires. It can truly be a scary event.

Re: Intense shot!

Scary and beautiful at the same time, a strange situation. I'm glad it was on the other side of the lake!
