Perhaps you can distract it?Where I live people feed old bread to the birds. And none of them has ever attacked me. Mind you, a feeding frenzy sometimes frightens little kids, especially if there are geese or swans around. But those are the biggest birds we have, there are no vultures or anything like that.

I'm pretty sure it was a Urubú de Cabeça Vermelha (Cathartes aura).
Big bird, it reaches up to 4,5kg and its wings from point to point can measure up to 1,8m (about 5,5 feet long!)

Re: Perhaps you can distract it?Had a similar encounter a month ago: bearded vulture right above our heads. And these guys get to a wingspan of 2.70m in Europe (3m in Africa)...

There is another specie here called Urubú Rei which can get to 2,4m of wingspan, but 2,7m is just too much hehehe
