A great tent

A great tent

This Stephenson tent served me well for almost thirty years. It was made when Jack Stephenson worked for Rocketdyne near the San Fernando Valley in California. All of his stuff was handmade and way ahead of anything else being offered in the 70's. It finally met it end on a trip to Idaho when Bob Bolton and I did He/She Devil peaks. This pic was taken on the south side of Colchuck Lake, just before you start up the Aasgard Pass route. July 1984

Great catch!

Nice to have a pic of something so special in use! I remember the Stephenson name from the '80s.

Did you ever make any Frostline kits from back then?

Re: Great catch!

I never did make a Frostline product but I sure remember them. I just didn't have access to a sewing machine. : )

Rocketdyne?

I did peaks with several people who worked there. They used to have a club called "Vagmarken" and a monthly publication called Yeti Yells. I was a member for a number of years.

Re: Rocketdyne?

Just curious Marc, but where were you living at the time? Simi? 1000 Oaks? the Valley?
I grew up in the Valley (Van Nuys-No.Hollywood) and my folks moved to Simi after I graduated from high school. When they'd test their engines up at Rocketdyne, it'd shake the whole valley.

Re: Rocketdyne?

I grew up in Iran and have been living in Santa Barbara since 1969. One of my friends, Herb Laeger, who lived in LA at the time and was a member of Vagmarken introduced me to the club.
