That looks like...

the first rope that I owned! Actually, my very first rope was made of cotton, but I didn't weigh very much then.

Hi Marc,
these pioneers used ropes made of hemp, i think, heavy and awkward. When I started climbing in 1973 the ropes like this one had already been retired and there were already ropes made of synthetic material. I should not say it, but actually i did my first easy climb with Silvia using ...ehe, ehe...a rope for drying clothes... but only the first one, thankfully!

How funny! The cotton rope I was talking about was also a cloths line, thin and easily breakable. It's a miracle I'm still here!
