Altyn limestone cliffs

The impressive band of Altyn limestone that is so evident on many slopes of Mad Wolf Mountain. This particular band is at the head of a broad basin on the north slope, and it must be negotiated on any approaches from Cut Bank Campground. Class III routes exist through the cliffs, but great care must be taken in route finding. From this vantage point, horse trails lead beneath the cliffs to the left, where easy class II route are plentiful. August 10, 2014
