American Badger Silhouette

American Badger Silhouette
This badger was checking out the burrows of Richardson's ground squirrels under the watchful eye of a large bison bull. We only happened to be crossing the burrow region because the bull was sitting on our trail and we were giving him a healthy berth.

I guess the badger decided to give us a healthy berth too, moving a few hundred yards up from our location after granting us a couple of nice poses.

Photo taken on the Lamar River Valley Trail above the junction with the Specimen Ridge Trail, Yellowstone NP, mid-June 2008.
