Approaching the Bruneggjoch (3365m)

We're on the Brunneg Glacier, approaching the Brunnegjoch, the saddle between Schöllihorn (3500m) and Brunneghorn (3833m). The Brunegghorn normal route (UIAA grade PD-) ascends the Brunegg Glacier and eventually reaches the summit by the SW ridge, the top of which is visible coming from the right. The Bruneggjoch is the starting point for the more interesting NW ridge (grade AD-), a mixed climb. Another step up is the NE ridge (AD+), which appears mostly snowy here but is in fact mixed too, with snow on its north side and rocks on its steep east side. If there is a lot of snow, cornices overhanging the east face can make this route dangerous. And, last but not least, between the NE and NW ridges lies the bright and beautiful north face (D). 6 July 2014.
