This baby ruffed grouse was frozen like a statue hoping I wouldn't see him. His mother was off in the brush after doing a little threatening spin dance and hissing at me. Hasn't voted | Mom's act let me know they were there. Whenever they act like she did, they are trying to distract you away from babies. I didn't go looking for the chicks, but a few more steps up the trail and they scattered from the underbrush close by.
