The park is located in the boundary between Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states and it occupies seven cities on the Espírito Santo side and four on the Minas Gerais side. About 80% of the park it is in the Espirito Santo state. The largest peaks are in the boundary of the states,like a pico da bandeira,2892m,the Pico 2 or Pico do Cruzeiro,with 2.852m,the Pico do Calçado with 2.849m and the Pico do Calçado Mirim witk 2.818m.The pico do cristal,with 2.770m is exclusively in Minas Gerais territory.
The park still shelters other peaks,smaller in size,but also of considerable altitudes,as the Morro da Cruz do Negro(2.658m),the Pico da Pedra Roxa (2.649m),the Pico dos Cabritos or Tesouro(2.620m),the Pico do Tesourinho (2.584m),and the Pedra Menina(2.037 m),all in Espirito Santo territory.
This park is one of the most representative areas of Atlantic forest in Espirito Santo territory,that besides covering good part of the Caparaó Range,it is also found in the hillsides of the Castelo,Forno Grande and Pedra Azul mountains.
The Caparaó Mountain is a ramification of the Mantiqueira Range,if interconnecting with the Brigadeiros and of the Pai Inácio Mountains in Minas Gerais.
