Mike...Greetings from Arizona! I have a question
in regards to the formation in this photo.
I always thought it was called "Navajo
Dome," being that it's composed of
Navajo Sandstone. Please, take a look!
I need a proper ID for this one. I think
it might be 'Golden Throne,' because I
was in that area in June 1982.
PLEASE click.
This all shows me that I need to return
to the area with a good topo map!!!
Thanks, Mike!

Re: Mike...I seem to recall there was a sign depicting this as Capital Dome, but given that several months have passed and I was taking lots of pictures at the time, I could be mistaken. So, until I can confirm one way or the other, I'll leave the caption as is.
Unfortunately, I can't provide any help with the identification of the formation in your picture either.
Sorry, Mike

Re: Mike...Many of those rock formations in the photo are known as the capitol domes so I would say it is correct. This is because each of them has somewhat of a resemblance to the U.S. Capitol Building. None of them are officially named. When viewed from other directions Capitol Dome has a much different appearance as in this Photo
