Quick Planning
Finding climbing partners in Huaraz turned out to be relatively easy, but occasionally it meant waiting a few days. Before meeting Lyngve, with whom I would try to climb the two Huascarán peaks, I had four days to spare. At first I thought I'd go for a hiking trip. In fact, I had already been shopping for it while I was still thinking about where to go. Somewhere in the southern Cordillera Blanca? Or the Cordillera Huayhuash perhaps? And then I reconsidered: why not have a go at something more serious? And so I walked into the office of a guiding agency in Huaraz, and an hour later it was all arranged: tomorrow morning a guide and porter would be waiting for me to head out to Chopicalqui!
Unfortunately, less than ideal weather kept us from the summit. But I learned enough about the mountain to come back without a guide later, and took some nice pictures along the way. Time well spent.
