Cottonwood Wash at 700 meters!

Cottonwood Wash at 700 meters!

This is where "not to be" in the summer. The colourful alluvial fans and tilted carbonate ridges contain oxidized iron and alkaline-based soil, where only the most well-adapted life can flourish. There is no trail. This is the main route to Nevada's Pinto Valley, within the 39,173-acre Pinto Valley Wilderness Area near Lake Mead. You have to follow this normally dry wash from the Northshore Road to Cottonwood Spring. Cottonwood Spring is a good place to sit and rest in the shade of two Cottonwood trees, the only real trees in this area. Neighboring vegetation includes Desert Willow, one small Fan Palm, Arrowweed, Four- wing Saltbush and Honey Mesquite. If water isn't present on the surface, check around the wash for holes in gravel, as animals dig holes to get to precious water. (March 21, 2008) (Elevation = 700 meters!)

Re: I see Teddy

Yeah ... a good imagination helps in the
desert! There's so much empty space out there,
and its to your advantage to let your
imagination be your guide. Besides, it's free!

As long as you have a plentiful supply of H2O!
