Dawn at Emma Matilda Lake

Dawn at Emma Matilda Lake

Two Ocean and Emma Matilda Lakes are two gems of Grand Teton NP. The trail network that goes around and between the lakes provides always-new vistas of the Teton Range, especially Mount Moran and the Grand Teton. This picture looks away from the mountains and toward the sunrise over Emma Matilda Lake. A group of coyotes had been yipping to our northwest until a pack of wolves to our south started howling. Late June 2008.

Never figured out

the difference. But, then again we don't have too many wolves in California to hear their howling. Didn't say anything about grizzlies!
Happy climbing,
Marc

Re: Never figured out

We were lucky to be involved in a canine vocalization laboratory that morning. Wolves are full howls, coyotes more "yips" (though wolves yip too). Coyotes also sound more dog-like, unless your dog is like mine. (He howls.)
