Fantasy sceneTake the person out of the photo and it would look like some scene from a fantasy novel of an evil forest, the path leading to some castle in the middle (like Dracula's lair in Transylvannia).
Too bad about the devestation. I've seen the likes of it many times myself. One thing I've always noticed is how the burned out forest allows you to see so much farther through it (no needles and minor branches to obscure views).

Re: Fantasy sceneWe joked that this must be Mordor. It's whole mix of emotions when you walk through burned forest but sadness prevails. Thankfully our forest fires are not even close in scale to yours, which are terrible, like it happened in California past autumn. We have quite a lot of wild fires in summer but on coast and islands, mostly because hordes of reckless tourists and domestics throw not extinguished cigarettes from cars. If that is not intentional then those people must be unbelievably stupid. Past summer they caught starter of one big fire who confessed that he set it and because when he came home tired from work wife wanted sex which made him so angry and he expressed his anger in such way. One boy said he likes to watch fire fighting planes (Canaders here) at work so he set it. There are many bizarre stories. Mountains are quite spared because there aren't many people. Those that are up there are real nature lovers who care so fires are mostly started by lightning.

Re: Fantasy sceneYeah, people sure are unbelievably stupid sometimes.
Two summers ago in Arizona there were two big forest fires. Both of these were started by people. In the first instance, an out-of-work American Indian admitted to setting the fire so he could get work (he being a forest firefighter too). He got the work, burned out lots of his reservation's land, got found out, and, I believe, fined and tossed in jail. In the second incident, a woman was lost in the wilderness. She apparently set fire to some of the brush to create a signal to passing search aircraft. Of course her signal fire got out of hand. Dumb dumb-dumb dumb!
