Dripping Spring Mountain from the Jakes Creek Trail

Because the Smokies have an abundance of dense vegetation, this counts as a "good" view of a mountain destination. Views from the top are often similarly obstructed. It's all part of the charm. This is Dripping Springs Mountain from about two-thirds of the way up the Jakes Creek Trail. The trail goes up the drainage to Jakes Gap. Then it turns left to traverse near, but not to, the summit. April 2010.

I haven't been up this trail in summer yet. When it's leafed out, you probably see a lot less.
