Route Description
This is an 8.7 mile, blue blazed trail to the wooded summit of Springer Mountain. The footbed is obvious and class 1 to the summit even in winter.
1.0 mile: Viewpoint of the falls at 2480 feet.
1.2 miles: Cross a road.
1.3 miles: Trail to the Hike Inn
3.2 miles: High Shoals Road
4.8 miles: Summit of Frosty Mountain
5.1 miles: USFS 46
5.5 miles: Trail to the Hike Inn
6.0 Nimblewill Gap and USFS 28 (3,100 ft)
7.3 Black Gap shelter (3,410')
8.7 Springer summit (3,782')
Essential Gear
Standard hiking gear unless hiking in snow season. During snow season this approach remains non-technical but ice storm may warrent the occacional use of ice cleats (not quite crampons but helpful nontheless).
