Thanks for the directions.... that turn at 4300 is a pain to find in the dark (I was on the trail early). I think you need to finish out the route description of how to ascend the Butte itself it cuts off at the point where you drop down to the saddle between the end of Stetattle Ridge and the base of the Butte... you should fill in the description of how to ascend to the top of the Butte. I didn't make it, ran out of time on a short autumn day.
You're asking me? That was 25 years ago; I don't remember how I got home from work last Friday.
We stopped and studied the ledges and snowfields before dropping into the pass, and guessed. It worked, though some of the steps were bigger and more complicated than I expected. We finished along or near the left skyline of the photo at the top of the main page.
I'm glad you got out there and tried it, in spite of the frustration of coming back without quite nailing it.

Untitled CommentYour pic got so many hits because my trip report made the front page, and your signature photo went with it.

Untitled CommentThanks for your Elephant Butte comment. Of course the real reason for putting up the page was so I could brag about the trip.:-)

Untitled CommentGood stuff- thanks!- I like the off the beaten path, seldom visited peaks. North Cascades seems like a great place for solitude.
