If you think that is steep go check out the Potosi Mountain service road :)

Temple to top
This is the first mountain I climbed when I moved to Las Vegas. I approached from the Mormon Temple, the West, and a slim trail quickly turned into class 3 bouldering. Great quality of rock for the climb. Great view from atop. I went down, up to the Northern peak, then down the North side using a loose and dusty jeep path.
I recommend approaching from the West and looking over the Eastern edge at the South end of the peak.

Good Exercise
I originally planned to run this, but after getting up the first section and scoping the next "UP", it became more of a hike :)

Road Walk
Hiked the road and did the chain link fence belay to get to the high point. Visited both summits and the north one is definitely higher.

From the Temple
first time climbed in 2002 up the road from Lake Mead. second time climbed up a gully on the west face from in between Bonanza and Washington. Up in 1hr 15min. down in 1hr 15min. Nice views. Made it back to the car just as it got dark. Awesome sunset set the sky on fire. Third time went up the ridge from behind the LDS temple, some fun class 3 scrambling on the upper half.

Arrived in Vegas at 9PM after spending Thanksgiving with the family when Bob and Bill talked me into the night hike. Up on top by 11PM -- spectacular city views.

Hot Evening Hike
I took my friend and his girlfriend up the mountain to watch the sunset over Vegas then the city lights turn on. The hike up is very ugly and tons of trash all over, but the views of Vegas at night were just spectacular. The first half of the hike was quite hot since it was around 104 out but the wind on the second half cooled things down nicely.

Access road
Steep road but fantastic views on a clear LV day. Did both summits on top ridge, each with a tower set up but did stop short of trespassing inside the fence on the north one. At the fence on its highest spot, I was just a few feet shy of the true highpoint.

VIEW
Despite the lack of scenery on the way up and the repeater stations at the top, this may be the best view of Las Vegas, outside of a helicopter. Fantastic 360.

Access Road
Probably the least scenic hike I've done in the area - view at the top was great, but the broken bottles, trash pile, and access road left a lot to be desired.

From the Temple
Hiked the west face from the Mormon Temple. Stayed on the trail most of the way then scrambled some 3rd class en route to the summit. The rest of the valley was getting rain, snowing in the Spring Range.

I've climbed this mountain half a dozen times over the years. Most recently on October 11, 2004 & May 23, 2005.
The last time I went up via the access road with a group of people at night. The views of the Las Vegas lights at night are awesome from the top.
The access is road is extremly steep with lots of loose rocks. Watch you footing going up and down.

9 times total - 3 hikes, 5 Jeep rides, & 1 mtn. bike ride/hike
I climbed this one on my first paid holiday with my then 13-year old sister, Laura. We made it to the top via the Mormon Trail on January 15, 1990, in about an hour - did it again via the west face on January 19, 2013 with Dick Wimmer and Howie Vander Meer. I had previously been to the top with a mountain bike on Nov. 27th, 1982 and I'll never do that again.
I have since been to the summit five more times in my Jeep. Most recently I was up there on October 13, 2007. That has given me the chance to take my 70-year old Dad who's health doesn't allow him to hike anymore. He's the one who whetted my appetite and got me interested in all this hiking stuff.
Route Climbed: Steep, loose road from Lake Mead Blvd Date Climbed: Nov 19, 2005
After seeing this peak dominating the skyline on a previous visit to Vegas, I decided to hike up here in the evening to see the city lights. Not sure that it would be worth the effort in daylight unless you'd run out of other peaks in the area, but it's a decent enough way to get a bit of exercise at night. That road is pretty damned steep, and the footing is quite unpleasant--loose crud on top of solid ground, tough going up, and not quite loose enough to just run down on the descent either. Used the headlamp in places, but for the most part the city lights were sufficient to hike along the road.
I hadn't realised just how big Las Vegas is until I got to the summit...
