Visited this popular place. But will hike Rim to River and back at least. If I have enough energy and days, I will do Rim to Rim to Rim.

Spent several nights in the Canyon, covering Tonto Planteu, river and rim. This natural wonder never ceases to amaze me. Magical.

Hiked to the river and back up with my parents and brothers. We took turns supporting our parents up the last few miles as their knees were shot, the sun was going down, and there was still patchy snow on the ground. Good bonding experience and a fun hike.

There was fresh snow on the trail going down, and of course the rangers said crampons were necessary, but not having any, I went ahead and did it anyway, with no problem. Just over 6 hours roundtrip. A great hike, fabulous views.

Wow, this hike was amazing. Decsended the South Kaibab, and the colors were something else. Camped at Phantom Ranch and came back up Bright Angel the next day. Coming up was grueling. I can't beleive my dad made it. Hats off to him. Its a must-do hike.

Hike from the North rim to the river and back 30(?) miles and the last 5 are the steapest. It was nice soaking my feet in the ice cold river. Nice to be able to buy a cold drink and make a call from Phantom Ranch.

With only a few hours to spare on the road trip, I hiked around the rim from the village to watch the sun drop below the horizon. Hopefully will be back next summer to spend more time at this amazing place.

Took my wife and son to Phantom Ranch for Christmas dinner. What an awesome spread. We spent three nights at Bright Angle campground lounging around and playing with my 18 month old son Adam. It was his first over night trip into the backcountry. Planned to take two days climbing out but the weather took a turn for the worst. Instead of staying one more night at Indian Gardens we pushed on to the top. We got within a mile of the south rim before the snow started.Grand Canyon pics and a passing mule train video

What an amazing run! Did a one-day R2R2R double-crossing with Peter Sanders (pksander), Todd Croke, and Yasuyo Kitano (Todd and Yasuyo did S Rim to Cottonwood and back for 32 miles). Went down the Bright Angel, up the N Kaibob to the N Rim, back down the N Kaibob to the river and out via S Kaibob. Totals: 17hrs 30min, 46 miles, 11,300' of elevation gain. Amazing... a must-do ultrarunning classic!!

R2R2R with Chris Gerber, supported halfway by the presence of friends Todd and Yasuyo "Susie Big Juggs" Kitano. Descent South Rim via the Bright Angel Trail to the North Rim, and back up the South Rim via the North Kaibob Trail. Long, long day. Roughly 50 miles and 10,000 feet of vertical gain. Walking a little funny afterwards...

A 3 day wander including the Hermit trail - camping on the Colorado River was wonderful - all alone until the ascent. Warm and beautiful at the bottom - snowing at the rim.

Been down to the "Canyon" many, many times over the years. Hiked down via Bright Angel down to Phantom Ranch, have hiked the North Kaibab and meandered around on the Grandview route. Camped at the bottom when the air temp. was 5 degrees at the canyon rim. At least it was a balmy 24 degrees at the bottom!
Have also hiked pretty much all the scenic trails on the south rim. Nice area.

One day in and out. Camped on the south rim the night before, which was one of the coldest campouts I've experienced. Trip was postponed from the previous November due to weather. Hiked it with Alan and Dad (age 78).

Vagabond Manifesto100 miles in the Grand  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 8, 2006

Vagabond Manifesto

Spent two weeks in the park with a friend, hiking and backpacking. Three backpacking trips: New Hance Trail (camping at Hance Rapid is great); Grandview Trail/Horseshoe Mesa; and an ambitious trip to Clear Creek.

The steep South Kaibab Trail has better views than the Bright Angel Trail. Saw a rattlesnake on the South Kaibab Trail and dealt with icy stretches on the upper portion, the day after a snowstorm. The New Hance Trail was very hot but fun.

Hiking downstream from your campsite on Clear Creek through the Precambrian rocks is highly recommended.

On the South Rim, catch sunset at Powell Point and avoid the crowds at Hopi Point.

There is nothing like the Grand.
