...as always. Your pages are such great additions to summitpost. I am thinking about doing this one in a couple weeks and how timely this one is. Thank you.
Thanks Dean! I’m glad that you like the page. I knew that you would be interested in climbing this mountain. Snow melts early from Gunsight Peak and it is usually dry by June. This is probably because of its location and elevation. Try to climb this one on a clear day if you can since the views are quite extensive.
Thanks Larry, I was at Cathedral Rock in early April and it was snowing. Next time, I’ll hike up it. Gunsight Peak is one of those mountains that is interesting and has good views. It definitely isn’t crowded. Have a good weekend too. I’ll try to stay away from those Towel-head rocks!
Thanks! I also looked at Gunsight Peak for much of my life while traveling back and forth from Utah to Idaho. I finally decided to just go and climb it. There wasn’t much info available so I thought I would add a page for it.
Thank you! I drove past this peak many times and thought it was neat looking because it was so prominent from the valley. The property owners allow people to hike, hunt and fish on their land as long as you sign the register at the trailhead. This allows them to know what you are doing and why your vehicle is parked there.
Thanks Moapa! I wasn’t able to hike as much last year and had to take it easy for a while due to injuries. I usually don’t submit a mountain unless I enjoyed it and thought it was interesting so I’m glad you like my contributions.
Thanks for the nice comment. The southern route wasn’t that bad, it just took longer than expected because I got a late start.
I have recovered from most of my injuries. Should be healed by next year though. I hiked on trails efficiently with crutches for a while. Still wasn’t able to do anything very strenuous until a few months ago. I feel much better now.
I know exactly what you mean when it comes to healing. Hiking with crutches huh? You're an animal! That doesn't sound very "gazellish" though. Again, I echo Moapa; it's good to have you back!
I can testify that she is back from my experience yesterday on Gunsight's south ridge. That is one tough little mountain and it took me 8 hours to do 8 miles roundtrip. I did Pueblo (OR), Duffer and Jackson HP (both in Nv) and the combined times for all three mountains was about 8 hours. Tough gal and an impressive one (hiking with crutches?) She wins my RESPECT.

Well ...I was going to do a TR on Cathedral Rock in Nevada, but time ran
out on me again.
Nice page and interesting history. In my opinion, Gunsight Peak
beats a balancing red rock called "Towel-head" any day of the week.
Have a nice upcoming weekend, Melinda.

Thanks for PostingI've been wanting to try this one, but couldn't figure out how to get access with all the private land.

Injured huh?So thats where you've been. It is good to see some more of your work. Great page, as usual. That southern route looks like it was a long day.
