Hi!

Hi!

On the evening of November 13 an anonymous SP moderator banned my SummitPost account from posting in the forums. There was no explanation provided, no reason given, no warning. Not even a PM stating that it had occurred or any explanation whatsoever. They remain anonymous and have not given me any reasoning whatsoever. They also acted alone without consulting the other moderators. Up until this point I have been working on good terms with the moderators, both to help build the site content and think of ways to make it better. We had also been cooperating in terms of forum activity. It seems that at least one of them remains determined to take it in a different direction. EDIT (Nov 16): Two days after I was banned, one of the SP moderators came forward and explained the reason why as he understood it, though I had figured it out by that point (by searching threads for deleted posts). I appreciated the response. I wasn't surprised he communicated since I have had cooperative interactions with him several times over the past few months. He clearly wasn't the moderator who banned me. I would like to communicate the details to you all publicly, but fear that if I do this will be deleted. Feel free to contact me privately. The moderator who banned me still has not spoken up or communicated why he thought this was the best approach. Several of the moderators who have interacted with me in the past likely would have taken different steps, and a simple PM would have accomplished the objective both more respectfully and more straightforwardly. I am fairly certain I've determined who took the action, as several have come forward and stated it wasn't them. I think (hope) there is some realization amonst most of them that there are more optimal ways. I've sent the moderator who banned me a PM asking him for his input and to try to have a channel of communication, and I have confirmed he has seen it. Still, it was promptly ignored. No response. By the way, there was one other member that was banned, and I have also not been told how long I will be banned for. Again... I do appreciate the responses several of you have made both publicly and privately. EDIT (Nov 28): I was unbanned after a week, as was the other SP member, but have been fairly inactive since, and will likely be a while before I become quite as active again. It just isn't worth it while things are being handled in this manner. The reasons I was given for being banned were bringing things from other websites onto SP (though I have not done that and I am not on the other website the moderators were referring to) and for making a comment with respect to a particular SP member. The mods specifically stated my comments were appropriate if they had participated in the thread, but not otherwise. The issue there, however, was that they had been participating in the thread since the first page. It probably is not a coincidence that the SP member is friends with Bob Burd, who is the moderator who banned me. Here is the thread

Re: surreal

With all due respect to women, I suspect that
some people DO expect us to read their MINDS.

I call this the "Cyberspace Sand Worm Syndrome."

PICTURE yourself walking across a virtual desert, where you have NO way of knowing
WHO your closest friends and natural enemies
are.

The only thing you CAN do is keep on walking,
and HOPE you meet up with an "Oasis of Communication" and concrete REASON to keep
on contributing to the Community.

This is what I feel 'Mister Chad' is going through right NOW, and my thoughts are with
him as he continues his OWN journey across
a vast UNKNOWN of cyberspace rock & sand.

Best Wishes ..

Re: surreal

Well kamil that is exactly what happened. I figured out the reason after a while, not with their help. Though I stand by that it wasn't warranted (as would others who had the details), the real issue is how it came down. It was counter to previous discussions I'd had with the proactive mods, and absolutely took be by surprise as I hadn't done anything that justified it in recent history. I just don't think it was approached in the right way considering the effort I and others put in to improving this site.

Re: surreal

I think you captured my thoughts well lcarreau, thanks for your post. I never saw the need for anonymity here. Knowing who you are talking to goes a long way towards getting along with people.

Re: surreal

I think it's not good when women generally are accused here, you should mention the name of the woman, kamil. mrchad9 should know the reason, why he was banned. That's obvious. Anonymity is wrong.

Re: surreal

Hiltrud, I'm sorry if that comparison offended you, perhaps I shouldn't have used it. Just the action of the anonymous moderator in question made me a bit angry.
All the best,
Kamil

Hi MrChad9

Being banned isn't so bad. I've been banned nearly a year now. You've still got your stuff here, the only thing you've lost is your ability to waste time and get in trouble on the forums. Not bad at all.

Re: Hi MrChad9

On SP, it's very difficult to develop a sense
of which members are BANNED and which members are here to stay.

It's like throwing a prime cut of raw meat
into an arena full of blood-thirsty lions.

Who is the lurker and WHO is the lion ???

Now if only I could get the mods to stop looking at my pants.
