Horny toad

[ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]

It is not a toad or frog, but a lizard. Its coloration serves as a camouflage. When threatened, their first defense is to remain still and hope to avoid detection. It worked, Duchess (my dog) did not notice it at all...

	Hasn't voted	Thanks, I did check the site. His horned lizard looks different, but I guess there are many different species as I was reading on line. I have seen quiet a few of these in NM.

	Voted 10/10	It's a well-known fact that SP has a lot of Horny Toads posted on various pages. I have studied the Horned Lizard at great length, and have seen many in Arizona and northern Utah. There does seem to be several species of this fellow. A rare find in the Grand Canyon, the Desert Horned lizard has larger head spines than those found on other species in Arizona. Like it's larger cousin the Chuckwalla, these guys are loyal members of the Iguana Family. Nice Horny Toad, Liba!
