Javorovy stit and Ostry stit [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Javorovy stit and Ostry stit
Here you see and can differ glacial and periglacial forms of Tatras terrain. Javorovy stit on the left has a periglacial summit plateau, so itīs clear that glacial activity wasnīt very intensive. Glacier laid in the eastern part of the long ago broader Javorovy stit and cut it to form the eastern wall of the Javorovy stit. Ostry stit was completely under the glacial cover, so it toothed the whole peak. Under the peak you can see mass of solid, nearly horizontal block of rock, so this is the bottom of the glacial valley. In the center of the photo you can see Strelecka veza (Archerous tower), that is not connected to any ridge. This special creature of glacier has a term nunatac. There are some more nunatacs in Tatras: Zlomiskova veza under Vysoka, Hruba veza in Bielovodska valley, under Svistovy stit and Kostolik in Batizovska valley, between Koncista and Gerlachovsky stit. Steep slopes of conic labile masses of rock under the walls of every peak in this picture are outcomes of weather influences and thus efflorescence of upper parts of peaks. Picture taken from the trail to the summit of Slavkovsky stit.
